Indigo Dye with Maya

In this workshop participants will use natural indigo dye to create one of a kind garments and textiles! This workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to various methods of creating pattern and color variety, including traditional Japanese Shibori techniques, resists, experimental tie dye and more! Prepared indigo dye vats, various pattern making materials (blocks, string, marbles, beans, bands etc.) and additional test fabric will be provided. 

Participants should bring 1-3 items they wish to dye: T-shirts, pillowcases, pants, dresses, tea towels, fabric cuttings. All items must be 100% natural fiber (cotton, linen, silk.) Additional info will be provided!  

Maya Shengold is a Philadelphia based multidisciplinary artist. Her textile work uses natural dyes, marbling, resist dyeing and other handmade techniques to alter vintage and recycled garments and fabric. Outside of textiles, Maya is a painter and filmmaker.
