ABOUT ABOUT

Join FABSCRAP and The Cozy Experience to learn the process of upcycling fabric scraps into cozy rugs using finger crochet techniques. We will have a station set up for cutting yarn out of the scraps and an introduction into finger crocheting. The goal is for each of you to leave with a finished piece or something you can finish later, along with some new skills!

All supplies provided! FABSCRAP will be providing scissors, fabric, and yarn scraps for use and most of this work is done by hand. For beginners cozy "starts" will be provided to build on-to because starting is the hardest part. For any crochet professionals feel free to show up and show off your skills with fantastic fabrics recovered by FABSCRAP.

Chewy Lu is a waste diversion artist, activist, and owner of the Cozy Floor Covers shop established in 2017. Her name is inspired by the children’s book Chewy Louie because she is also always eating. With a BS in environmental science and forestry from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Chewy works as an Energy Analyst during the week and on a farm on the weekends. In her free time, she also leads upcycle workshops and hosts low-waste parties deep in nature.

FABSCRAP is a textile recycling non-profit working to keep textile waste out of landfill! FABSCRAP Philadelphia opened in November 2021 at the Bok Building and welcomes the community to volunteer and shop in our space. They host monthly workshops to inspire creative reuse and engage the local community in using fabric scraps in new ways!
